How much does a billboard cost in Malaysia?
A billboard price has three parts: the media rental you pay the media owner each month, a one-off production cost to print and install the skin, and lighting for lit sites. Rental is the figure everyone asks about, but on a three-month static campaign production can add anywhere from a third to the same again, so always compare total costs rather than rental alone.
| Format | Typical size | Rental per month | Production (one-off) |
|---|---|---|---|
| Overhead bridge panel | 10’ x 40’ to 13’ x 160’ | RM3,500 to RM25,000 | RM5,000 to RM30,000 |
| Freestanding billboard | 10’ x 40’ to 15’ x 50’ | RM3,500 to RM5,000 | RM4,500 to RM8,000 |
| Minipole | 25’ x 15’ to 30’ x 20’ | RM6,000 to RM9,000 | RM6,000 to RM10,000 |
| Highway unipole, two faces | 50’ x 35’ to 40’ x 80’ per face | RM30,000 to RM55,000 | RM40,000 to RM65,000 |
| Digital billboard, one screen | 16’ x 13’ to 60’ x 40’ | RM25,000 to RM60,000 | None, you supply the video |
| Digital overhead bridge screen | 9’ x 42’ to 13’ x 66’ | RM30,000 to RM35,000 | None, you supply the video |
| Digital highway gantry, two screens | Large format, up to 25’ x 75’ | RM100,000 to RM170,000 | None, you supply the video |
Lit sites add about RM500 to RM1,500 a month for smaller boards and up to around RM4,000 a month for a lit highway unipole. Digital rates are for one 15-second slot in a loop shared with other advertisers, usually running 17 to 19 hours a day.
Billboard prices by area
Location matters as much as format. A digital screen on a highway gantry can cost several times more than a screen at a city junction, because it’s seen by far more cars, while outside the Klang Valley a static board in Ipoh, Alor Setar or Kuantan often costs less than the same size in Shah Alam.
| Area | Popular spots | Static, per month | Digital, per month |
|---|---|---|---|
| KL city centre | Bukit Bintang, Jalan Sultan Ismail, Jalan Tuanku Abdul Rahman, KL Sentral, Jalan Tun Razak, Jalan Kuching, Jalan Maarof | RM4,000 to RM28,500 | RM20,000 to RM70,000 |
| Cheras, Old Klang Road, Bukit Jalil and Sungai Besi | Jalan Cheras, Taman Maluri, Jalan Klang Lama, Mid Valley, Pavilion Bukit Jalil | RM3,500 to RM25,000 | RM25,000 to RM60,000 |
| Petaling Jaya, Damansara, Sunway and Puchong | SS2, Jalan Harapan, Bandar Utama, Kelana Jaya, Tropicana, Sunway, IOI Mall Puchong | RM3,000 to RM8,000 | RM20,000 to RM50,000 |
| Shah Alam, Klang, Bangi, Ampang and Selayang | Persiaran Sukan, Jalan Monfort, Bandar Baru Bangi, Jalan Ampang, Selayang Mall | RM3,500 to RM5,000 | Fewer digital options |
| Major highways | LDP, Federal Highway, Sprint, MRR2, DUKE, KL-Seremban, KLIA Expressway, PLUS | RM30,000 to RM55,000 for a two-face unipole | RM100,000 to RM170,000 for a two-screen gantry |
| Penang | George Town, Jelutong, Butterworth, Bukit Mertajam | RM4,500 to RM32,000 | RM30,000 to RM35,000 |
| Perak and Kedah | Ipoh, Taiping, Alor Setar, Sungai Petani, Kulim | RM2,500 to RM5,000 | Fewer digital options |
| Pahang, Terengganu and Kelantan | Kuantan, Kuala Terengganu, Kota Bharu | RM2,500 to RM4,000 | RM30,000 to RM40,000 |
| Johor | Johor Bahru Causeway, Jalan Wong Ah Fook, Jalan Tebrau, Jalan Skudai, Muar | RM3,500 to RM4,500 | RM30,000 to RM110,000 |

Two areas are worth a closer look. Screens around the JB Causeway and Jalan Wong Ah Fook sit on the routes Singapore visitors take into the city, which is why the biggest ones there price closer to Klang Valley highway sites than to city junctions. Penang’s large double-sided bridges over Jalan Jelutong and Lebuh Farquhar sit at the top of its static range, with freestanding boards and minipoles around Butterworth and Bukit Mertajam much further down.
How much can you save by booking longer?
As a rule, the more months you book a site for, the less you pay for each month. Rate cards are only a starting point, and media owners reward longer commitments with better rates, so three months works out cheaper per month than one, six months cheaper again, and a full year is where the biggest savings sit.
| Booking length | Saving per month, compared with booking 1 month |
|---|---|
| 3 months | Up to about 10% less per month |
| 6 months | About 8% to 20% less per month |
| 12 months | About 15% to 30% less per month |

Billboard bookings can’t be cancelled once confirmed, so only commit to longer periods when you’re confident about the site.
What else should you budget for?
- 8% SST. Every price in this guide is before tax, and SST applies to both media and production.
- Production and lighting. Static billboards need printing and installing, and lit sites charge for electricity on top of rental.
- Content management for digital screens. Some media owners charge about RM500 to RM800 a month to load and run your video, while others waive it, and extra content changes can cost more.
- A Malay version of your artwork. Billboards need Malay text that’s at least as prominent as any other language, approved by Dewan Bahasa dan Pustaka (DBP) before the artwork goes to the media owner.
- Lead time. Static billboard production takes about 15 working days once the visuals are final, so start early for festive campaigns like Chinese New Year 2027.
Static or digital: which one fits your budget?
Static boards give you a fixed spot at a fraction of the price of digital, with freestanding boards on PJ roads from about RM3,000 a month, which suits brands that want to stay visible in one neighbourhood for months. Digital screens cost more and you share the screen with other brands, but there’s nothing to print, you can change your creative mid-campaign and one month is usually enough, which makes them a natural fit for launches and festive pushes.

What isn’t included in billboard prices?+
Most rental prices exclude 8% SST, production and installation, lighting for lit sites, and sometimes a monthly content management fee for digital screens.
